Cheltenham toymaker Moose Toys has taken out the Melbourne Business Awards’ Business of the Year title, adding to its long list of achievements as a local manufacturer making a big mark on a global level.
Ranked 4th largest toy business in the huge US market, Moose Toys beat competition from Braeside-based building products maker Casafico and specialist boat builder Composites Constructions.
Casafico won the AusIndustry Innovation Award at the MBAs’ Gala breakfast on Friday, December 4th.
The other nominees for the awards included packaging companies CMTP, Rollspack and Versatile Technology, Mordialloc dairy food business Tempo Foods and creative services business Nulab Group.
Melbourne Business Awards’ Chairperson Denise Langford said the award winners had demonstrated outstanding business excellence and innovation, reflecting the diverse and dynamic nature of the region’s industrial landscape.
“Knowing a local manufacturer is defying the odds and taking on the likes of Lego and Mattel in its space is testament to what our region is capable of,” Denise said.
“It is a privilege to be part of a business community that produces outstanding, successful businesses such as Moose Toys and Casafico, even if it also makes the task of judging the final winners all the more difficult.
“In our view, every one of our winners and nominees are worthy of recognition and reward – the very purpose of the Melbourne Business Awards.”
The Awards were established as a forum to recognise the achievements of SMEs and family businesses in the Kingston municipality and surrounding region.
The City of Kingston alone is one of Victoria’s major employment centres and its industrial sector is one of the largest and most concentrated in the state, accommodating over 4,000 businesses with a 70,000-strong workforce.
